 The Work Honshin’s images are created using acrylic paint on a variety of of handmade papers.  Sometimes the paper is mounted to board and and 23k gold leaf is applied.  All aspects of framing are done by the artist.

The Paper  In 1987 Honshin acquired a large collection of rare Japanese paper crafted in the traditional way by a family with an unbroken lineage of more than 400 years of paper making from Shodoshima Island, Japan.  Each piece of paper has its own unique characteristics.  When these master paper makers create their paper it is pre-designated for special uses in Japan therefore the paper is rarely available outside Japan.  Honshin offers his gratitude and respect for the opportunity to be able to work with such carefully produced and spiritually charged materials.
